Q: What, exactly, is “home care”?
A: Home care has been around since the 1800s, but recent changes have increased the importance of comprehensive home-care programs.
United Medical Center’s home care department offers a full range of services to help patients regain their independence in the comfort of their own home.
The home care staff, patients, and their families work closely with the physician to develop a plan of care that is tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient and family.
The home care department offers skilled nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapy, social services and certified nursing assistants.
Some specialty programs are also available, such as maternal-child nursing, pediatric nursing, psychiatric nursing, respite care, housekeeping and case management.
Home care is a viable alternative to hospitalization or nursing home placement, reducing medical costs and increasing patient satisfaction by being able to remain at home.
Sandra A. Guidry, MD, is board certified in Internal Medicine.
Dr. Guidry is in private practice and is one of many physicians living and practicing medicine full-time in Cheyenne.
