Q: Should I worry about the effects of ultraviolet light?

A: It has become clear that ultraviolet or “UV” light causes damage when
we are exposed to it for extended periods of time.

This is true for all exposed parts of our body. Because of this, the face and the eyes are at risk.

It is well known that UV light contributes to the occurrence of skin cancer, which is common on the cheeks and eyelids.

UV light also is said to be among the causes of cataracts in the eyes of farmers and ranchers, as well as other people who spend a great deal of time outdoors.

If you are an “outdoor” person, and many of us in Wyoming are, make sure to visit your eye doctor regularly to catch any problems caused by UV as early as possible.
