For information, contact the social worker or case manger on your nursing floor, or call extension 3788.

Cheyenne Regional Medical Center's Tobacco-Free Policy

Because tobacco use has been acknowledged by experts to be both a fire hazard and a health hazard, Cheyenne Regional Medical Center is determined to eliminate its presence on all hospital property.

As a result, Cheyenne Regional Medical Center's Board of Trustees voted unanimously that Cheyenne Regional Medical Center buildings and all adjacent property owned or controlled by the hospital will become smoke and tobacco-free areas.

Effective 12:01 a.m., Friday, September 1, 2000, smoking and the use of tobacco products by employees, volunteers, patients, visitors and the Medical Staff is prohibited in or on Cheyenne Regional Medical Center's buildings or facilities, including CRMC parking structures and parking lots.

It is the intention of the CRMC Board of Trustees that this policy applies to all hospital staff, physicians, patients and visitors.

Help is Available

In keeping with Cheyenne Regional Medical Center's core values of quality patient care and outstanding patient satisfaction, Cheyenne Regional Medical Center will make available smoking cessation or nicotine suppression aids to any patients or visitors who need our support.

Nicotine gum is available from the House Supervisor for visitors who "need" to smoke, but can't because of the new policy. House Supervisors can be contacted by calling Nursing Administration at extension 7609, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. After 5:00 p.m. daily and on weekends and holidays, staff or visitors may dial "0" and have the switchboard page the House Supervisor on duty.

Guidelines for Patients and Visitors

A. Patients will be informed of the policy at the time of admission. Nicotine patches, nicotine gum, or other intervention resources will be made available to patients and/or visitors.

B. Tobacco use by patients in all areas of Cheyenne Regional Medical Center will be prohibited. Inpatient Behavioral Health patients are permitted to use tobacco with approval from their physician. The courtyard adjacent to the cafeteria, East campus, is the ONLY area authorized on Cheyenne Regional medical Center campuses for patients to smoke.

C. Efforts will be made by all staff to communicate this policy to patients and visitors in a positive manner and be sympathetic to those who are unable to smoke. If patients or visitors resist, employees are asked to call a member of the intervention team.

Cheyenne Regional Medical Center has found that many children are brought to the hospital for care when the responsible parent and/or guarantor is not present.

It is Cheyenne Regional Medical Center’s policy to hold financially accountable those people who bring the children to the hospital for services.

Accordingly, if an issue of “guarantor” develops, the grandparent, aunts, uncles, etc. are held financially accountable for charges generated.

In order to alleviate the problem, a form signed by the responsible party is available, and should be presented when the child is brought to the hospital.

Cheyenne Regional Medical Center provides its services without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, creed, age, sex or handicap
