Guest Trays

Many visitors enjoy the opportunity to share a meal with a patient. For this reason, Cheyenne Regional Medical Center’s Food and Nutrition Services has guest trays available upon request. Guest trays are available for any meal, as long as the Food and Nutrition Services is notified at least one meal before (for example, to order dinner, please order it by lunchtime of the same day). Visitors can order and pay for the meal in either cafeteria.

Food and Nutrition Services welcomes the opportunity to send food orders from the Greenhouse Grill to the East building.
The procedure is as follows:
1. Select the items you want to order.
2. Call the Greenhouse Grill at 7978 and place your order at least 1 hour in advance of the meal requested.
3. The approximate cost for your items will be given to you.
4. The External Transporter will deliver your meal when delivering the patient meals.
5. Please have small currency and change available to pay the Transporter.
If you have questions, please call Ext. 7976 or 7929.

The Lemon Tree also has the following food products available:
¨ Mrs. Fields Chocolate Chip Cookies
¨ Special K Bars
¨ Oatmeal Chewy Bars
¨ Tuna Salad to-go paks.

CRMC’s Food & Nutrition Services has 46 employees—
full and part-time, p.r.n. and temporary help (utilized to cover vacations in summer and at Christmastime).

Of the 46 employees, 33 are on the food production staff, six are on the clinical staff, which is comprised of registered dietitians and registered dietetic technicians, three supervisors, two managers and one director.

Food & Nutrition serves about 292,000 meals (or meal equivalents) a year to patients, cafeteria customers and at special-function catered meals: 140,000 patient meals, 132,000 cafeteria meals and about 20,000 special-function meals. Employees staff six tray-line runs a day—breakfast, lunch and dinner for both East and West buildings.

The West kitchen facility staff provides all food preparation and production for the West building and the preparation, production and transport to the East building’s cafeteria and patients. The West kitchen facility was built in 1968, but a new kitchen will be included in the new patient tower addition.

In 2001, the department will move to the new first-floor Patient Tower, which will have a new kitchen, cafeteria and dining area for use by employees, patient families, visitors, physicians, volunteers and the general public.

The cafeteria will be designed around the “scatter concept” with multiple separate food stations rather than the single serving line of the present cafeteria. It will include a grill, traditional hot entrees, soup and salad bar, a pizza/pasta station and “grab and go” station offering prepackaged items such as sandwiches, salads, deli, bakery and dessert items and beverages for easy takeout.

The dining area will be next to big windows looking out into the courtyard. During good weather, diners will be able to enter the courtyard and enjoy an outdoor setting for their meals.

Also, two to three meeting rooms and a new auditorium with a movable partition will be included with easy access from the kitchen for special-function catering. These rooms will replace the existing auditorium and Century Room.

Clinical Dietetics

Food & Nutrition Services’ registered dietitians and registered dietetic technicians screen all in-patients—an average of 525 a month—for nutritional status to determine which patients need a full nutritional assessment—about 200 patients a month. Also, the clinical staff members see 1,200 outpatients a year, as well as provide many educational talks for the community, such as to school children, civic organizations, at Health & Fitness, the breast cancer-prevention teas and other hospital programs, just to name a few.

Internships

The department has mentored dietetic interns from Colorado State University and the University of Northern Colorado for the past 15 years. The internship runs for three months for a clinical study and six months for a clinical/administrative dietetics study.
