Admissions

Cheyenne Regional Medical Center’s Admissions/PBX Department is comprised of three areas: Admissions, Pre-Admissions and Switchboard.

Admissions
Admitting clerks obtain patients’ biographic and financial information to complete the admission process and obtain consent for treatment and financial-responsibility forms. The staff completes admissions for all areas of the hospital for every patient who receives services at CRMC—outpatients, inpatients, Emergency Room patients, etc. The clerks also do all patients’ bed transfers and obtain all patient bed assignments. The Admissions department also maintains admitting desks in the Radiology and Emergency departments.

The Admissions/PBX Department is dedicated to providing compassionate, timely, accurate, courteous and confidential services to our community, which includes telephone communications processed in an efficient manner for all patients, families, friends and physicians.

Pre-Admissions
Pre-Admissions staff is responsible for obtaining biographical and financial information and verifying insurance coverage and benefits prior to the patient’s scheduled admission—inpatient and outpatient, and for Cardiopulmonary, Operating Room, and Radiology scheduled procedures.

Admissions prepares 60-80 charts a day for the next day’s patients and, then calls all those patients’ insurance companies for all major procedures like surgeries, CT scans or heart catheterizations. That way, insurance companies don’t penalize the patients for non-notification. They also verify insurance coverage for all in-patients who were admitted the previous day. And they work with doctors’ offices regarding patients’ insurance and call incoming patients for updates on their records.

Switchboard
Switchboard operators perform the following duties:
• Answer incoming calls and direct them to the proper extension,
• Do pages as necessary,
• Monitor all emergency alarms and the emergency phone line,
• Monitor the physicians’ incoming-call priority phone line,
• Take messages for physicians,
• Perform cashier duties when the Cashier’s Office is not open,
• Communicate via radio with Engineering, Security and Housekeeping staff.
• Answer questions, give directions, etc.

Many of the veteran staff members are able to fill all the various positions in the department. They have to be flexible enough to help out in Admissions and the other areas when they become very busy. They need to be able to do one thing, switch to another and back again—to be versatile and mentally flexible.

Requests from Admissions/Pre-Admissions for incoming patients:
