Safe Kids Wyoming receives generous donation CHEYENNE – Safe Kids Wyoming Car Seat Inspection Station received a $5000 donation from State Farm Insurance, Regional office, for the purchase of child safety seats. Motor vehicle crashes remain the number one leading cause of unintentional injury-related death in children ages 1-14 nationally and in the state of Wyoming. This is primarily due to improper use of a child safety seat or no use at all. The Cheyenne Safe Kids Inspection Station alone has distributed almost 1200 child safety seats in the last four years. The majority of these recipients have been low income families who would not have been able to afford such a seat without the assistance of the program. “It is great to see such them support such a worthwhile effort,” said Stephanie Heitsch, Safe Kids Wyoming and Cheyenne Regional’s Injury Prevention Program coordinator. With the generous support of organizations like State Farm, the Inspection Station will be able to help many of these families and individuals keep their children safer while traveling in a vehicle. For every dollar spent on a child safety seat in the United States $32 are saved in direct medical costs. This particular donation has saved $160,000.
